CommentaryThough the root 'han' (to slay) is directed at the Self [in the context], it signifies causing the separation of the jīva from the body and not the destruction of the jīva. Scriptural injunctions like 'You shall not cause injury to beings' (?) and 'A Brahmin shall not be killed' (?) indicate acts which are forbidden because they cause the separation of the jīva from the body. |
