Tasmāt-tvam-indriyānyādau niyamya Bharatarsabha
Pāpmānam prajahi-hyenam-jñānavi jñāna-nāśanam

41. Therefore, O Bull of the Bharata race, do you, restraining the senses at the outset, cast away this sinful thing, the destroyer of Knowledge and Realisation.

Therefore, O Bull of the Bharata race, do you, restraining the senses, bringing them under control at the outset,[1] cast away this sinful thing, the foe under discussion, namely desire, which follows evil or sinful courses, the destroyer of Knowledge and Reali­ sation. Knowledge (Jñāna) is the perception of (becoming awake to the Self and other (relevant) matters, derived from the śāstra (Scripture) and the Teacher. Realisation (vijñāna) is the especial (personal) experience of that teaching. The instruction is: know­ ledge and Realisation arc the means to the attainment of supreme felicity; do you cast away from yourself their destroyer.

It has been taught, "controlling the senses at the outset, cast away desire, the enemy ". Resting on what is desire to be cast off, is being stated:
