Karma and Free-will

We, in some unknown Power's employ
Move on a rigorous line;
Can neither, when" we will, enjoy
Nor when we will, resign;

he expresses one phase of the truth. We cannot enjoy and we cannot resign, because we want to do, so when we should not. The Power knows better, and will .not let us do what we should not. If we will but understand the Power we will not fret against the captivity but will sing with Newman: So long Thy power hath blest me, sure it still Will lead me on.

There is no freedom and no peace except in conforming our will to His will. When the Gita asks us to be mere instruments in His hand, it is not any outside master that we are asked to obey but the Master who is in us.
