Krishna and Yashoda

Yashoda is mentioned as Nand’s wife in ancient books. Bhaagwat Purana says that Devaki’s son Krishna was born in King Kansa’s prison in Mathura. Vasudev took Krishna to Yashoda’s house in Gokul to protect him from Kansa and Krishna was brought up by Yashoda. Many ancient scripts mention Krishna’s pastime. Some of them like showing Yashoda a glimpse of universe and stealing butter and then being caught by Yashoda etc are beautifully described by Surdas. Yashoda also helped raise Balram, Rohini’s son and Subhadra’s brother. A daughter named Ekaanga is also mentioned at some places.
