If we make real to ourselves the victims of every bloodstained page of history, if we hear the woes of women, the cries of children, the tales of calamity, of oppression and of injustice in its myriad forms, no one with any human feelings would delight in such bloodstained conquests. 6. na cai 'tad vidmah kataran no gariyo vad va jayema yadi va no jayeyuh yan eva hatva na jijivisamas te 'vasthitah pramukhe dhavtarasrah (6) Nor do we know which for us is better, whether we conquer them or they conquer us.
