yaṃ saṃnyāsam-iti prāhur-yogaṃ taṃ viddhi pāṇḍava |
na hy-asaṃnyasta saṅkalpo yogī bhavati kaścana || 2 ||

2. That which is called Sannyāsa (Renunciation) O Arjuna, know to be Yoga (Karma Yoga).
For no one becomes a true Karma Yogin without relinquishing the delusive identification of
the body with the Self.

Commentary

The term Sanyāsa refers here to Karma Yoga only, which also includes Jñāna Yoga or knowledge of the true nature of Self. One who has not attained the level of realisation that the body is different than the Self, cannot become a Karma Yogi of the type described here.
