ayayau sammukhe yoddhum
baladevasya dhenukah
balam pashcima-padabhyam
nihatytorasi sa-tvaram

cakara khara-shabdam svam
paridhavan muhur muhuh
grihitva dhenukam shighram
balah pashcima-padayoh[1]

Coming before the Lord to fight, with his hind hooves Dhenuka suddenly kicked Balarama's chest and neighed. Balarama chased Dhenuka, quickly caught his hind legs, and with one hand playfully threw him into a tala tree.
