Prahlada’s Prayer
tasmàdamustanubhrtàmahamàsiso jna àyuhsriyam vibhavamaindriyamàvirincàt 9. Therefore knowing their nature I do not crave for these pleasures which the ignorant seek after, viz., long life, wealth, fame, high positions of Indra upto Brahma even, nor do I wish possession of powers like Anima, etc., which will be snatched away by Thee, O Lord, disguised as Time, I pray, keep me always in the vicinity of Thy servants. kutràsisah srutisukhà mrgatrsnirupàh kvedam kalevaramasesarujàm virohah 10. Of what use are the pleasures which are pleasing only to the ears but are unreal like the water in a desert? Of what use is this physical body, the abode of all diseases? Knowing this well, the world never becomes disgusted with it. They try to put out the fire of desires with drops of sensual pleasures which are very difficult to be obtained. |
